YouYou Group embraces the darker, transformative forces of music in HAMEL. Through a slow, choreographed exodus, the group sweeps across the theater, bold and epic, guiding the audience towards a communal healing.
The starting point is the eponymous legend of Hamelin: a rat catcher lures the children of Hamelin with the enchantment of his flute, only to drown them in the nearby Weser River. In YouYou Group's interpretation, the river becomes the protagonist, murmuring the unheard and unspoken. The performers' voices flow through the theatre's architecture in an immersive ritual, dissolving all boundaries in a quest for rebirth and healing.
